The Columbus Blue Jackets signed head coach Todd Richards to a two-years contract extension through the 2016-2017 season. The Blue Jackets announced the move in a press release on Tuesday. Richards was at the helm as the Blue Jackets finished with a franchise-best 43-32-7 record this season. The Blue Jackets qualified for the playoffs as a wild card team and were defeated in six games in the first round by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Overall, Richards has a record of 85-70-16 with the Blue Jackets in 171 games as head coach. Richards was named head coach on May 12, 2012 after serving a brief stint as interim coach of the team. "Todd has done an outstanding job for the Columbus Blue Jackets and were pleased that he will continue to lead our team," General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement.
