CANBERRA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A serious spinal injury suffered by Newcastle player Alex McKinnon this season has fast-tracked National Rugby League (NRL) plans to double the amount of compensation it pays for career-ending injuries.


NRL players who suffer devastating injuries, such as those which have confined Newcastle forward Alex McKinnon to a wheelchair Arden Key Womens Jersey , will be eligible for payouts of up to 1 million AU dollars under the proposed temporary insurance scheme, double the current amount of 500,000 dollars.


The planned policy has been unanimously supported by the league and all 16 clubs.
