The Panthers like having the veteran Anderson as Newtons backup. Hes good enough to start for at least half the teams in the NFL, which is why the Panthers signed him last year to a two-year extension through 2017 at a relatively low price ($5 million). He won two games during the 2014 season while Newton was injured and runs some portions -- short passing game -- of the offense more efficiently than the NFL MVP.
