EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A couple of comeback kids helped the New York Giants continue their winning streak. Terrell Thomas returned an interception 65 yards to set up a go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run by Andre Brown, and the New York Giants won their third straight game, 24-20 Sunday over Oakland. It was appropriate that Thomas and Brown combined to maintain the Giants hopes of overcoming an 0-6 start. Thomas missed the past two seasons with major knee injuries. Brown missed the first eight games this season after breaking his left leg in the last preseason game for the second time in nine months. "When I scored off his interception return, I went back over there and I said: Good job" said Brown, who ran for 115 yards on 30 carries. "Hes another guy that showed perseverance. He knows how to deal with adversity. Guys like that, you feed off of. I want to make sure Im a guy that they can feed off me." The error-prone Giants (3-6) did. They also fed off their defence, which limited a banged up Terrelle Pryor and the Raiders to 213 yards in total offence. Even more importantly they forced Oakland (3-6) to settle for a field goal on the opening possession of the second half after getting a first-and-goal at the 1. Instead of a 24-14 lead, the margin was 20-14. "That was huge," middle linebacker Jon Beason said. "Anytime you can go out there with your backs against the wall, its a good thing." Thomas interception was even bigger, and it turned the momentum a final time. After a three-and-out by New York, Oakland got the ball back at the New York 48 following a 27-yard punt by Steve Weatherford into a stiff breeze. On a third-and-9 from the 33, Pryor tried to hit Denarius Moore on a slant. Thomas, who was the NFC defensive player of the week two weeks ago, was waiting in the slant route. "It was a route they have run a lot and I was waiting on it the whole game," Thomas said. "They run two-by-two slants and coach put us in a great position and I was happy to make a play for the defence." Thomas ran toward the gaping end zone, avoiding a tackle by Pryor inside the 20 before being tackled by Andre Holmes. The ball came loose, and officials said Thomas was down. Brown gave the Giants the lead from the 1-yard line following a pass interference call, taking time to kneel in the end zone and stretch his hands to the sky. "Its great to have Dre back," Thomas said. "To run for 100 yards after sitting out and missing eight games and to come back in the fashion he did, and run like he did, its very refreshing for our team. It was great to see him return to his old self. I wish I would have scored but it was great to see him get in." Despite throwing another pick-6, Eli Manning threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle, and Cooper Taylor scored on a 21-yard return with a blocked punt. Josh Brown added a field goal. Pryor scored on a 1-yard run and Tracy Porter on a 43-yard interception return for Oakland. Sebastian Janikowski kicked two field goals. "We just to go back to work and stick with each other," said Pryor, who was 11 of 26 for 122 yards playing with a sore hamstring. "A lot of fingers can be pointed at me. Thats all right, I understand that. The next time we get in this situation we have to know how to react." Coming off a 49-20 loss to the Eagles, the Raiders were in a position to win this game. Porters interception return put them ahead 17-14 at the half and Janikowskis 24-yard field goal that capped an eight-minute drive stretched the lead to 20-14. But Thomas and Brown stepped in to save New York. Josh Brown added a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and New York clinched the game when Mathias Kiwanuka had a sack-forced fumble on Oaklands final possession. Pryor scored from 1 yard on the second play from scrimmage after a fumble by Jerrel Jernigan on the opening kickoff. New York, which had given up special teams touchdowns in the two previous games got one back. Damontre Moore blocked Marquette Kings punt and Taylor scored. Oakland took a 10-7 lead on a 33-yard field goal by Janikowski. A fumble by running back Peyton Hillis on a short pass set up the score. Manning got the Giants going in the second quarter with a TD pass to Randle. However, Mannings third pick-6 of the season allowed Porter to skip into the end zone. NOTES: The previous time the Giants returned a blocked punt for a TD was by Tom Flynn in 1988. ...Weatherford had a miserable day, averaging 30.4 yards on four punts. Linebacker Sio Moore had nine tackles and a sack to lead Oakland. Safety Antrel Rolle had a game-high 12 tackles and a sack, one of four by New York. Steve Bartkowski Womens Jersey . At their worst, theyve played beneath the low level of some pretty dreadful competition. A week after laying their latest egg against one of the NFLs worst teams, the Steelers get a crack at another one Monday night as they visit the Tennessee Titans. You can follow all the action LIVE on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN5 with coverage beginning at 8:15pm et/5:15pm pt. Pittsburgh (6-4) had its best rushing day in eight years with 264 yards in a 37-19 win at Carolina in Week 3, then lost at home to Tampa Bay the following Sunday in a result that remains the Buccaneers lone victory. Ben Roethlisberger took his turn as the star in wins over Indianapolis and Baltimore to cap the Steelers 3-0 midseason homestand, throwing six touchdown passes in back-to-back weeks as Pittsburgh put up 94 points, but once again the shelf life on Pittsburghs positivity was short. The Steelers fell behind 17-0 after one quarter last Sunday against the Jets, and Roethlisbergers lone TD pass came with just 1:16 left in a 20-13 loss to a New York team that was 1-8 coming in. Its the NFL, if you dont show up ready to play your type of game, youre going to lose, wide receiver Lance Moore said. Our last game was a perfect example of that. Were hot. We came in high and mighty and a team came in and played better than us. Struggling against some of the leagues lightweights has been a somewhat alarming trend since Mike Tomlins arrival in 2007, particularly away from home. Pittsburgh has played nine road games in the second half of its schedule against teams with a sub-.300 winning percentage, and the Jets loss was its sixth in those contests. The Steelers have a minus-15 turnover differential in those games. The ability is there, its just about going out and doing it, defensive end Cam Heyward told the teams official website. We have to have our focus and mindset on the Titans this week. We cant forget what happened, but we have to move past it. We have to move in the right direction and clean up the stuff that put us in trouble this past week. Pittsburghs early hole against the Jets continued another noteworthy road trend. Since the start of last season, the Steelers have been outscored 88-26 in the first quarter away from Heinz Field. Theyve held an 85-56 edge in the first 15 minutes at home. Tomlins team has allowed an NFL-high 36 points on its opponents first offensive possession, but the Titans (2-7) have oonly come away with one field goal the first time theyve had the ball.dddddddddddd Tennessee looked great in the first quarter last Sunday at Baltimore before reverting back to the form thats seen it score the leagues fewest points. The Titans had 142 yards and a 7-0 lead after 15 minutes but were held to 68 yards on 30 plays the rest of the way in a 21-7 loss. Early in the first half we did a lot of good things to kind of counteract their guys, rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger said. We just got to continue to ... play like that for 60 minutes. Mettenberger hasnt been bad in his first two starts, completing 63.2 percent of his passes with three TDs and two interceptions, but hell want to focus on getting the ball out sooner against Pittsburgh. Baltimore switched to primarily zone coverage after its banged-up secondary struggled in man, and Mettenberger was sacked five times over the final three quarters while struggling with his reads. You try to have an internal clock, that lets you know when its time, but with the defensive linemen that they have, the clock goes a lot faster, Mettenberger said. I know I need to play a lot smarter. This is a quarterback driven league and I have to play better. Mettenbergers task could be tougher without tight end Delanie Walker, who leads the team with 512 receiving yards but is questionable after being carted off against the Ravens with a concussion. Walker was cleared to practice this past week, but must be checked by an independent neurologist before he can play. The Steelers have eight sacks in two games this month but have allowed four of the five QBs theyve faced on the road to post a passer rating of at least 109.3, though the outlier also happened to be a rookie from the AFC South. Pittsburgh pressured Blake Bortles into a pair of interceptions in a Week 5 win at Jacksonville, improving to 18-2 against rookie signal-callers since Dick LeBeau returned as defensive coordinator in 2004. Opening more holes in the running game could be just as significant in boosting that record as confusing Mettenberger. The Steelers have run for just 91 yards on 42 carries in their past two games, and havent scored on the ground since Week 3. LeVeon Bell and LeGarrette Blount might find the Titans defence slightly more accommodating. Tennessee has allowed an AFC-worst 4.53 yards per carry since October, including 363 yards and four touchdowns in its last two losses. The Steelers were held to 31 yards on 15 carries as Bell missed a 16-9 Week 1 loss to the Titans last season. ' ' '
