DALLAS -- Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Baylor officials are scheduled to meet with the leagues board of directors Tuesday to present their plans to address the sexual assault scandal that rocked the university this summer.Bowlsby, speaking Monday at the opening of Big 12 media days, said Baylor officials have declined to release the full Pepper Hamilton report to the conference. He said Big 12 officials have had access to only a summary of the report and findings of fact that Baylor officials released to media and the public in late May.Our board has asked for a full accounting from Baylor University relative to the sexual assaults and their universitys response to that situation, Bowlsby said. I think its fair to say that theyre deeply concerned about the associational elements of this. ... From a purely athletic standpoint, we also have to be satisfied that there havent been Big 12 rules broken and there havent been NCAA rules violated. That is the essence of our process, and its very early in the process right now.On June 22, the Big 12 issued a public statement demanding specifics of Baylors sexual assault investigations, including the full Pepper Hamilton report, and made a point of noting that this was the second time the conference had to ask. The first request was a letter to then-president Kenneth Starr on May 24, two days before the university publicly released the law firms report summary and announced the fates of Starr, athletic director Ian McCaw and football coach Art Briles. This time, Baylor responded. There was an in-person meeting June 23 between Bowlsby and Baylor officials, including interim president David Garland and board of regents chairman Ronald Murff. They gave Bowlsby no documents, no details of the investigation, none of the names involved in the alleged assaults and none of the material the conference originally requested, but they did give him an explanation.I thought all of them were very forthright, Bowlsby told ESPN last week. They are in the middle of ... a number of potential civil actions, and on the advice of counsel, they are not sharing everything they have. At least not right now.Garland told ESPN last week that Baylor officials met with NCAA enforcement staff earlier this summer to address what was included in the Pepper Hamilton report. He said the university hasnt been contacted by the NCAA since the initial meeting.Garland, Murff and Baylor regent David Harper are scheduled to address the Big 12 board of directors Tuesday, according to Bowlsby.Bowlsby said the Big 12 board of directors executive committee -- Oklahoma president David Boren, Texas president Gregory Fenves and Kansas chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little -- decided to go public with the news that they were demanding information from Baylor and that the school wasnt complying.I think that there are certainly those among our board that have felt that the image of the Big 12 and the other members of the Big 12 have been sullied as a result of this incident, Bowlsby said. Its gotten a lot of publicity, obviously, so thats the reason the board took the steps they took.Bowlsby said the Big 12s goal is to erase sexual assault at its institutions. We are very committed as a group of 10 schools to eradicating sexual assault on our campuses, he said. It almost goes without saying that when you combine alcohol and drugs and raging hormones and the experiences of 18-22 years old, its probably unrealistic to think that these kinds of things are never going to happen. But we certainly want to make sure that from the center we do everything we can to ensure that they are minimized, if not eradicated.Bowlsbys comment, however, has been ridiculed on social media as being too accepting of any sexual assaults taking place on college campuses.Later on Monday, Bowlsby was asked to clarify his comments about sexual assaults on college campuses.Ive only worked on campus for 35 years, Bowlsby said. Thats not blaming anybody. Thats just the reality of it on a college campus. Its not right, but thats what goes on. Thats what every Thursday, Friday, Saturday night is. Im not sure what else to say. I wasnt being flippant about it. I dont think it mitigates it.It should never happen and we should do everything we can to eradicate it. But if you put 25,000 18- to 22-year-olds on a campus together and mix in any of those other things, there are going to be people that make bad decisions. Im not talking about victims or survivors or perpetrators. Thats just what happens. Im really not trying to be crass about it. I just know thats the environment thats on campus.Three federal Title IX lawsuits involving sexual assaults are pending against Baylor, and they represent claims by eight women, including two who said they were assaulted by Bears football players.I came away with enhanced confidence that David Garland was very intent upon doing the right things and leading the university out of a dark chapter and that the board [of regents] was similarly committed, Bowlsby told ESPN. Having said that, this is a very long process and it has many steps to it, not the least of which are all the things that the Pepper Hamilton report details need to be done, and some of them are pretty big projects. But saying it and doing it are two different things. How long the conference waits depends on the patience of the board of directors, which is composed of the presidents of the member schools, including Baylor. Bowlsby said they realize this is a long process, but I dont think theyre going to wait forever, regardless of where Baylor is with its various lawsuits.Bowlsby said Baylor is aware that there could be repercussions for not turning over the information, although he wouldnt say what those might be. The conference, which distributes about $25 million to each of its member institutions, doesnt have specific bylaws that address this, he said, adding that the board has a wide array of options if and when the time comes. Its also unclear what would happen if the conference received the information and then determined that Baylor had violated bylaws regarding compliance with Title IX and unfair competition, because the league doesnt have the power to impose the same sort of punishment as the NCAA. Bowlsby didnt rule it out, though. If its determined they werent in compliance [with Title IX], theres a provision in our bylaws that says they have to be in compliance but it doesnt apply a specific remedy for that, Bowlsby said. So the board would have to get back together once that finding is finalized and determined what, if any, penalty or sanction there might be at the conference level.Glen Perkins Twins Jersey . The 29-year-old from Port Colborne, Ont., has nothing but good things to say about former U.S. marine Liz (Girlrilla) Carmouche ahead of their co-main event Wednesday on the UFCs "Fight for the Troops" televised card in Fort Campbell, Ky.A roundup of the past weeks notable boxing results from around the world:Saturday at Rosarito, MexicoAntonio Margarito W10 Ramon Inocente Alvarez Junior middleweights Scores:?97-92 (twice) Margarito, 95-94 Alvarez Records:?Margarito (40-8, 27 KOs); Alvarez (23-5-2, 15 KOs)?Rafaels remarks: After Margarito, a former welterweight titleholder, had his surgically repaired right eye smashed up in a 10th-round knockout loss to Miguel Cotto in their rancor-filled rematch in December 2011, Margarito retired. This being boxing, naturally, he made a comeback in March. He got knocked down, looked extremely rusty and even more painfully slow than he was in his prime and struggled to a decision win against Jorge Paez Jr.In the second fight of his ill-advised comeback (his eye still looks deformed), Margarito, 38, of Mexico, took on countryman Alvarez, 30, the older brother of lineal middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who was ringside (as was Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.). Margarito again looked rusty in a hard-fought split decision win, one in which he did deserve. He got off to a very slow start but began to pick up the pace with his trademark pressure as the fight went on. Alvarez landed a lot of shots but Margarito -- still an outcast to many for his failed attempt to fight Shane Mosley with loaded hands wraps in 2009 -- brushed them off and continued to stalk Alvarez. Both fighters emerged with welts and bruises on their faces but Margarito claimed the decision as Alvarez saw his 10-fight unbeaten streak come to an end. After the fight, Margarito, to nobodys surprise, called out for a fight with Canelo, a bout that thankfully is extremely unlikely to happen and not just because Canelo is scheduled to face junior middleweight titlist Liam Smith on Sept. 17.?In the co-feature, junior welterweight prospect Pedro Campa (22-0, 17 KOs), 24, of Mexico, stopped David Bency (10-6-1, 4 KOs), 28, of Nicaragua, 55 seconds into the seventh round of their scheduled 10-round fight.Saturday at Pensacola, FloridaRoy Jones Jr. W10 Rockin Rodney Moore Cruiserweights Scores:?100-90 (three times) Records:?Jones (64-9, 46 KOs); Moore (17-12-2, 7 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Perhaps this is finally the end of the line for the 47-year-old Jones, a pro for 27 years but who has overstayed his time in the ring by around a decade since he was the untouchable pound-for-pound king and a four-division world titleholder (from middleweight to heavyweight).A lock first-ballot Hall of Fame selection, Jones, who ruled boxing from 1993 to 2004, returned home to his beloved Pensacola and headlined a card promoted by his company Square Ring. Jones said it might be his final fight and around 5,000 turned out to watch the shell of a once great fighter showboat his way to a shutout decision against an abysmal opponent in Moore, 40, of Houston, who was utterly ineffective as he lost his 10th fight in a row. He did not box between 2005 and 2012 and has not won a fight since 2002.Jones, meanwhile, won his secoond fight in a row since suffering a devastating fourth-round knockout to Enzo Maccarinelli in Moscow in December.dddddddddddd He had an easy time with Moore in what amounted to a sparring match, despite tearing his right biceps in the fifth round and fighting essentially one-handed for the second half of the fight. Jones suffered the kind of injury that could keep him out of the ring for an extended period, so perhaps he will just hang up the gloves, content with the memory of a hometown victory in front of his adoring fans. That would be a nice way to finally go out.Friday at Verona, New YorkMiguel Flores W10 Ryan Kielczweski Junior lightweights Scores:?97-93, 96-94 (twice) Records:?Flores (21-0, 9 KOs); Kielczweski (25-2, 7 KOs)Watch highlightsRafaels remarks: Flores, a 24-year-old Mexico native fighting out of Houston, took on the best opponent of his career so far and passed the test in a competitive and entertaining match with Kielczweski, 27, of Quincy, Massachusetts, in the season finale of the summer run of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN.Flores, aiming to make a name for himself in the deep featherweight division, got off to a strong start and his punches were a little crisper throughout the fight. He also moved well and worked well on the inside against the hard-charging Kielczweski, who also fought well but just not quite as well as his opponent. According to CompuBox punch statistics, Kielczweski had the edge but the judges got it right. Stats do not always tell the whole story. Flores landed 260 of 769 punches (34 percent) and Kielczweski connected with 295 of 770 blows (38 percent). Kielczweski finished the fight well, hurting Flores with a body shot in the final round.Yordenis Ugas W10 Jamal James Welterweights Scores:?99-91, 98-92, 96-94 Records:?Ugas (16-3, 7 KOs); James (20-1, 9 KOs)Rafaels remarks: The Las Vegas-based Ugas, 30, who won a 2008 Olympic bronze medal for Cuba before defecting, came into the fight having lost two decisions in a row to then-unbeaten opponents (Amir Imam and Emmanuel Robles) and also having not fought since the loss to Imam in May 2014. Ugas was scheduled to fight Bryant Perrella (14-0, 13 KOs), 27, of Fort Myers, Florida, but he dropped out of the fight a few days beforehand when he was not cleared because of a lingering left thumb injury. So James, 28, of Minneapolis, took the fight on short notice but was outclassed despite turning in a good effort in the clear defeat. It was a technical fight with little action or entertainment value but the vastly experienced Ugas, the 5-foot-10, five-time Cuban national amateur champion, did his thing -- box, box, box -- as he worked the body and basically toyed with the taller James, who is 6-foot-2. According to CompuBox punch statistics, Ugas connected with 234 of 615 shots (38 percent) while James landed 141 of 606 (23 percent). ' ' '
